Ukraine: Classes being held in person and online
When the war in Ukraine started on 24 February, the Ministry of Education declared a two-week school break. But since then, teaching has resumed.
Olha Haidai is a teacher working in the capital Kyiv. She says despite the difficulties created by war, children “are more concentrated on the work”.
She tells Newsday about one of her students who was previously uninterested in his education but since “both his parents are in the army now… this boy decided to study”. She says the boy realises that "he is the only one who is important for his education right now, and not his parents".
