Martin Lewis explains the National Insurance hike

From 6 April 2022, most people's National Insurance contributions will rise by 1.25% points.

Personal finance expert Martin Lewis explains the numbers behind the rise and what it could mean for you.

"When the Spring Statement, the mini-Budget that we recently had by the Chancellor came on, overall, I thought more was needed to help with the cost of living. The one bright spark though, was the change in the National Insurance threshold," says Martin.

"You've got the change in the rate which starts today, and you've got the change in the threshold that comes in July," he continues.

"If you were paying £1,000 in National Insurance a year, you're now going to be paying more than £1,100," explains Martin.
