Imran Khan’s removal a first for Pakistan’s democracy?

The frontrunner to become Pakistan's next prime minister, Shahbaz Sharif, has hailed a new beginning for the country, after Imran Khan was ousted in a no-confidence vote.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is the current chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party. He tells Newsday that the removal of Mr Khan is a first for the nation: “In Pakistan’s history, no prime minister has been removed through democratic means.”

He says opposition parties in Pakistan support Mr Sharif because he will implement “electoral reforms… towards new, fresh, free and fair elections where the people of Pakistan can decide”.
