North Korea: Kim Jong-un celebrates 10 years in power
North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un has been celebrating his 10 year anniversary of taking power. This comes amid concerns that North Korea may be planning more ballistic and nuclear tests in the coming days. Just last month, North Korea conducted a full intercontinental ballistic missile test for the first time in five years.
Andrei Lankow, a specialist in Korean studies and author of The Real North Korea: Life and Politics in the Failed Stalinist Utopia, describes Kim Jong-un's start to life as North Korean leader. He says that many underestimated him when he first took power but that he is now likely to remain Supreme Leader for many decades to come and seeks "stability and survival".
