Can Peru’s president survive protests?

There have been violent protests in Peru in recent days as people have taken to the streets over rising living costs, and fuel and fertiliser prices.

Simeon Tegel of the Washington Post says the leftist government of Pedro Castillo, which won elections in 2021, “raised a lot of expectations, especially amongst the poor… people who thought that life was going to get better…and it hasn’t”.
