Sasha Makoviy, a Ukrainian mother, scrawled contact details on her two-year-old daughter's back while fleeing Ukraine. She wrote Vira's name, age and some phone numbers on her, in case the family were separated or killed while fleeing Kyiv.
Sasha says they were in a queue for 22 hours to cross the border, and they spent nights in the car, unable to switch on the engine in case the Russians targeted them. They travelled fro Moldova, to Romania, to Brussels and now in France. She says the hardest part of the war is seeing how the Russians are treating Ukrainians, and even when she's walking in France, she imagines there are mines there. She goes on to say the support she has received from around the world since posting the picture has meant a lot to her, and the kindness of the French volunteers have "moved her to tears".
"I was thinking, in case of our deaths, she could be found and would know who she is."
