Could your smartphone diagnose Covid?
Australian scientists have developed an app that records the sound of coughing and determines whether coronavirus is the cause. It’s attracted the attention of one of the big Covid-19 vaccine developers - American pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer – which has since offered to buy his product.
Tony Keating, chief executive officer and managing director at ResApp Health, told Newsday this could significantly reduce the number of rapid antigen/PCR tests performed globally.
“Covid affects the lungs in a particular way which affects the cough sound in a particular way. If we provide a negative result we are 99 per cent sure that person is negative.â€
“As a smartphone-based test, it’s infinitely scalable – we can get a test to someone in central London just as easily as getting a test to someone in Mozambique.â€
