Singer and author Will Young joined Nihal Arthanayake on 5 Live, but listeners were drawn to a familiar beeping noise in the background.

It turned out to be Young’s smoke alarm, leading to the Pop Idol star admitting that he has lived with the sound for two months as he did not know how to fix it.

"I pray to any God that my insurers aren’t listening to this" he said.

"It has become so background now that I don’t even notice it."

Luckily for Young, one of 5 Live’s listeners was on hand to let him know how to change it.
