California bill tries to stem 'great resignation'
Could California see a four-day work week in the future? A shorter working week is something that many countries have experimented with, and now it could be the turn of California in the US. Its State Legislature is looking at re-defining the working week as 32 hours, a change from the current 40 hours, for larger companies.
Newsday spoke to Evan Low, a Democratic member of the California State Assembly, whose constituency represents Silicon Valley.
He co-wrote the bill, which he says is “addressing burn-out, as well as the great resignation brought on by the Covid pandemic. This is an opportunity to encourage more individuals to come back into the workforce, boost morale and help with employee retention.”
