Caroline Nokes: ‘I’m reliant on somebody else to bring me the [HRT] drugs I need’
Health Secretary Sajid Javid has announced that he intends to appoint an HRT tsar amid national shortages. The Conservative MP and Chair of the Women and Equalities Committee, Caroline Nokes, has been outspoken about the impact this shortage is having on women.
She joined Emma Barnett on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour to discuss her reaction to the ongoing shortages and her own experience of being unable to access her medication. She has resorted to sharing a colleague’s prescription.
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society say: ‘We don’t think any woman should be put in a position where the only way she can obtain her HRT medicines is from sources other than an NHS prescriber. We welcome the intervention by the Secretary of State to appoint a champion try to get to the root of the problem with supply of HRT medicines. A prescription is for one individual only and we urge extreme caution about obtaining medicines in any other way.’
