Could the US repeal the right to abortion?

The final decision is likely to come in July.

In the US, the legal right to have an abortion is under more pressure than ever before.

The news organisation Politico has obtained what it says is a leaked draft of a majority court opinion striking down the Roe versus Wade decision, which established the legal right for women to have abortions in the US.

The opinion would allow each state to make its own decision about abortion rights. The Supreme Court is expected to make its ruling in the next couple of months.

Newsday spoke to Mary Ziegler a lawyer and author of a number of books on this issue, including "Abortion and the Law in America: Roe v. Wade to the Present". She told us the conflict surrounding abortion is likely to escalate with the battle now likely to move on to individual states.
