New face of Trumpism wins party vote in key race
Author JD Vance has won a Republican party primary for the US Senate after being endorsed by Donald Trump.
In the US, a Republican party electoral race seen as an early test of the former president Donald Trump's continued influence in his party's politics has taken place in Ohio. Voters have been choosing their party's candidates in primaries for the upcoming midterms.
The seat could be decisive in the balance of the Upper House of Congress, who vote on major bills. The Senate is currently equally balanced with 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans, with the Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris having the deciding vote if there is a tie.
Well, in a key result Republican party voters have chosen the author JD Vance as their candidate for the open, formerly Republican-held, Senate seat. Mr Vance was backed by former President Donald Trump whose endorsement proved key as ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Newsday heard from Annie Linskey, a Washington Post reporter in Ohio.
JD Vance "went from the kind of Republican who could explain Trumpism to liberal Democratic party elites to becoming one of the intellectual leaders of where Trumpism could go next. He is poised to become a far right Republican party leader."
