Taliban accused of imprisoning hundreds of Afghan women
In the past few days we've been hearing that the Taliban in Afghanistan have ordered all women to veil their faces when in public. This was the dress code that the Taliban enforced when they were last in power.
But the way women dress is not the only right they've been losing, according to documentary-maker Ramita Navai.
Working undercover, the British journalist has produced “Afghanistan: No country for women” to highlight the new reality for Afghan women under Taliban rule.
“The Taliban are arresting hundreds and imprisoning hundreds of women for so-called moral crimes. There cases are not being officially recorded or registered. They are being tasered and beaten in prison.”
“They disappear off the streets and… are swallowed up in the system. They are also being abducted and forced into marriage by Taliban fighters, commanders and officials.”
