Will Russia's neighbour Finland abandon its traditional neutrality?

The government of Finland is expected to announce whether it will apply to join NATO, abandoning its traditionally neutral stance. Support for such a move has grown sharply in Finland and neighbouring Sweden since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine.

Moscow has threatened unspecified measures if the governments in Helsinki and Stockholm abandon their longstanding policy of military non-alignment. The British prime minister, Boris Johnson, promised military support for Finland and Sweden during a visit to the traditionally neutral countries.

The ѿý's James Reynolds reports from Lapland in Finland where he saw “handfuls of border guards, otherwise no activity and a very small number of [civilian] Russians driving over the border.”
