'California is in a megadrought - and there's no end in sight'

The state of California is in its third year of drought, and in a few hours' time the governor Gavin Newsom will decide whether to impose statewide measures to curb water use.

California could face mandatory water restrictions if residents don’t cut down on their own as the drought drags on and the hotter summer months approach, the state’s governor has said.

January through to March is typically when most of California’s annual rain and snow falls. However, this year, those months were the driest in at least a century.
