Australian Lisa Blair breaks Antarctica solo sailing record

Lisa Blair has just broken a world record as the first person to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted around Antarctica in just 92 days. Despite the freezing conditions and nearly losing her life, she sailed more than 16,000 miles to raise awareness around climate change.

Lisa spoke to Newsday saying, "The record itself required that I had to stay between the latitudes of 45 degrees south and 60 south in the Southern Ocean. That's your storm belt - it's called the roaring 40s, the furious 50s, and the screaming 60s for a reason. You're effectively spending three months in this survival mode, and just having to get through every challenge and hurdle, as you go day by day, and going through storms where waves are the size of a five storey building coming through and smashing into the boat, and winds strong enough to rip the roof of a house. So it's definitely been one big adventure."
