Russia's eastern Ukraine offensive intensifies

Fighting in the east of Ukraine is said to be at maximum intensity. Ukrainian forces in the Donbas say the Russians have attacked dozens of settlements in their current bid to take the strategic towns of Lysychansk and Severodonetsk.

Earlier this week, Ukraine's President said he believes 50 to 100 soldiers are losing their lives every day in their defence of the east.

Roland Oliphant, is a journalist from the British newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, who has been visiting a field hospital in the Donbas region.

He described the situation as "A constant frantic flow of people in terrible states, almost all of them suffering with some artillery fire. So we're talking both civilians and soldiers coming in, sometimes walking, sometimes on stretchers, and the wounds are things like, shrapnel wounds, which can hit any organ at any angle, concussions, and difficulties breathing because of blast waves".
