Colombia election: Ex-rebel and businessman face runoff

The dramatic outcome of the first round of the presidential election in Colombia sets the stage for big political change in the country.

David Adler is a political economist with the Progressive International think tank. He tells Newsday why he considers the forthcoming face-off “an earthquake election”.

He says “Peace and life are the big two main components of Petro’s programme” while Mr Hernández’s “presentation is flashy…tick-tock based…the content of his politics are very, very scary. This is a guy who says women have no place in politics”.
