Alex D Great is a calypso musician, based in the UK, who has recently found fame with his song celebrating the Platinum Jubilee.

The song was originally written for the Diamond Jubilee and uploaded to YouTube, where producers for Britain鈥檚 Got Talent spotted it and asked Alex to appear on the show.

鈥淭hey found it and [the original video] must have had about 200 hits, and they said, 鈥榗an you adapt that for this Jubilee?鈥 And I said sure!鈥

Speaking to 5 Live's Dotun Adebayo, Alex says the song is 鈥渁 bit controversial鈥 amongst his friends as republican sentiments are on the rise in many Caribbean countries.

鈥淚鈥檝e had a few old friends come and say, 鈥榳hat鈥檚 happened to you, where is the political, social commentary?鈥欌 His response to friends is, 鈥淚鈥檓 wishing a very old lady happy birthday, why are you giving me grief?鈥

鈥淚鈥檝e never had a problem with the Queen, I admire the fact she keeps her dignity in everything she has to do鈥 she is Queen of Great Britain and the Commonwealth, so good on you Ma鈥檃m.鈥
