Could Taser drones help to protect American schools?
Axon had announced plans to develop Taser drones in response to recent deadly mass shootings, claiming that the drones could prevent future tragedies.
The US tech company, Axon, has been forced to suspend controversial plans to produce Taser-equipped drones for use in schools, after the majority of its ethics board resigned.
The firm had announced the development of the technology as a tool intended to prevent mass shootings.
Issie Lapowsky is chief correspondent at Protocol, a news platform covering the tech industry. She told Newsday there had been a number of concerns, amongst them "they're going to be conducting this passive surveillance on students all the time... that surveillance would fall on the shoulders of marginalised children... and concerns about how effective a drone would be in a mass shooter scenario when you have these semi-automatic weapons that probably are going to be targeted right at the drone".
