Refugee family return to Queensland after years of detention
Residents of Biloela, a town in Queensland Australia, have greeted the Murugappan family who have touched down from Perth.
Priya, Nades and their daughters Kopica and Tharnicaa are returning to their adopted hometown after a four-year battle.
The Tamil family, who came to Australia from Sri Lanka as refugees a decade ago have been involved in a years long battle to return to their home where they had been living on bridging visas.
After a campaign led by residents of Biloela, the incoming Labor government has released the family from detention permitting them to return home as their case remains before Australia's courts.
Newsday spoke to Katrina Beavan, reporter for the ABC who was at Thangool airport about their landing and response they received from the crowd.
