Survey shows the optimism of African Youth
Researchers from the study have conducted almost 4,500 face-to-face interviews with young Africans across 15 countries.
It’s been predicted that by 2030, Africans will make up 42% of the world’s young people.
Africa as a continent has the youngest population in the world, in fact, 70% of people in sub-Saharan Africa are under the age of 30.
Ivor Ichikowitz is a South African businessman and his foundation is today publishing the African Youth Survey 2022. He wanted to know what the young generation in Africa thought about their own countries, lives, politics, and issues across the continent.
Researchers from the study have conducted almost 4,500 face-to-face interviews with young Africans across 15 countries. So what does it tell us?
Ivor Ichikowitz told Newsday, "We were remarkably impressed by the amount of optimism that we saw in this generation, the African youth of today are a generation who don't believe that their futures are in the hands of their governments, or in the hands of donors, or in the hands of third parties. This is a generation that accepts that they can take their futures into their own hands."
