MeToo in Comedy: ‘At some gigs we are starting five steps behind the start line’
Two of the biggest names in comedy at the moment, Katherine Ryan and Sara Pascoe, have been making headlines following comments they made on Katherine’s new TV show. Both revealed instances when they’ve worked with men they believe to be predatory and, despite complaining, these men have not been reprimanded. Katherine has said that female comics are in a ‘constant state of vigilance and assessment’ when it comes to navigating their careers and the men they work with.
Kathryn Roberts did comedy for 5 years but eventually left the industry in 2019, and comedian Chloe Petts will be performing her show Transience at the Edinburgh Fringe. They joined Emma Barnett on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour to discuss their experience as women in comedy.
