Former UN senior official seeks independent probe
A former senior United Nations official is calling for an independent panel to investigate allegations of sexual abuse and corruption in the organisation.
Purna Sen, who was in charge of tackling sexual harassment at the UN, has said that an urgent inquiry is needed. She told Newsday: “The systems it has for investigation, reporting and accountability are wanting. They’re inadequate, they’re too slow. They reflect the issues of status and hierarchy which ends up protecting abusers who tend to be senior men as opposed to the more junior staff.”
The UN has told the ѿý that it has consistently emphasised a zero tolerance approach to sexual harassment and abuse.
