Afghan earthquake: Hundreds dead and injured
Disaster management officials in Afghanistan say at least 280 people have been killed and many more injured by a powerful earthquake.
The earthquake was a 6.1 magnitude quake and hit overnight about 40km from the city of Khost in south-eastern Afghanistan.
Tawab Zafarzai is a freelance producer in Kabul. He tells Newsday that the death toll “will rise more and more” because “most of the construction is made of mud”. He adds that it will be “almost impossible” for aid to reach the disaster zone.
