Nigeria violence: 'There is nowhere in the country where you will be safe' says senator
Senator Emmanuel Bwacha calls for foreign intervention to fight bandits in Nigeria.
There have been a spate of attacks that have occurred across Nigeria.
This includes bandits kidnapping individuals, asking for ransom, and in some cases murdering them.
In May, gunmen abducted dozens of train passengers in northern Nigeria, when armed men blew up a railway and attacked a busy train traveling between the capital, Abuja, and Kaduna. Also last month, a serving member of the State Assembly, Okechukwu Okoye, was also abducted and beheaded.
A former MP has also been beheaded by abductors in the south-east of the country. Police in Anambra State say the decapitated body of Nelson Achukwu was found two weeks after he had been kidnapped by gunmen.
As these attacks intensify, people are becoming increasing worried about their safety.
Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, a serving member of the Senate of the South Senatorial District of Taraba, addressed the attacks on Newsday. He said that he believes foreign intervention is now necessary, to deal with the situation in Nigeria.
He told Newsday "The country actually needs foreign intervention. We need outsiders, like maybe the United States or even Europe, to come in and give a helping hand. There is no doubt about it that we need it. There is nowhere in the country where you will be safe."
