‘No missiles targeted Belarus’ says Belarusian opposition

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has accused Ukraine of provocation after claiming his military shot down missiles fired at his country. Mr Lukashenko has not provided any evidence for his claim but it comes one week after Ukraine said missiles struck a border region from Belarus.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is leader of the Belarusian opposition in exile. She was in the running to become president but was forced to flee the country after Mr Lukashenko declared a landslide victory. She told Newsday: “No missiles targeted Belarus. The only real threat is coming from dictators in Minsk and Moscow. Lukashenko is trying now to be useful before Putin because it’s the only guarantee of his political survival.â€
