Activists vow to continue protests in Sudan
The East African nation of Sudan has been rocked by near-weekly protests since a coup on 25 October up-ended its fragile transition to democracy. More than 100 protestors have been killed to date and while the coup leader, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has said the army will withdraw from ongoing political talks and allow political and revolutionary groups to form a civilian transitional government, many people are skeptical.
Hajooj Kuka is a film director and activist in Khartoum. He told Newsday that the protests will continue “until we’re where we can get exactly what we want... what we are actually asking for is for him to stand down… and to stand trial”.
