Protestors in Sri Lanka have greeted with cheers the news that the president, Gotobaya Rajapaksa, has fled the country. He was flown on a military jet to the Maldives with his wife but reports suggest they are headed to a third country.

Sunila Galappati has been protesting since March together with her husband and their two young children. She told Newsday they have 鈥渕ixed feelings鈥�because we are caught up in the minutia of what鈥檚 going to happen next and mostly concern because there has been no official resignation yet鈥�.
