Mixed feelings as Sri Lanka’s president flees
Protestors in Sri Lanka have greeted with cheers the news that the president, Gotobaya Rajapaksa, has fled the country. He was flown on a military jet to the Maldives with his wife but reports suggest they are headed to a third country.
Sunila Galappati has been protesting since March together with her husband and their two young children. She told Newsday they have “mixed feelings…because we are caught up in the minutia of what’s going to happen next and mostly concern because there has been no official resignation yet”.
