Nearly half a million people face hunger in Karamoja in Uganda
People within the Karamoja region of Uganda are experiencing major food shortages, with estimates that nearly half-a million people are facing acute hunger.
On Friday, Ugandan member of parliament from Karamoja, Faith Nakut Loru, told Newsday that people there are no longer able to cope and that urgent help is needed. She recalled the famine which she survived as a child, explaining how people there are at risk again.
Alfred Tudman, who is based in Karamoja, shared his thoughts with the programme.
Reacting to the current situation, he said "Right now, it's so alarming. It is really so scary. We hear reports of reported deaths every day because of hunger".
