Russia and Ukraine to sign deal restarting grain exports

Turkey says a deal has been reached with Russia to allow Ukraine to resume exports of grain through the Black Sea. The agreement is due to be signed in Istanbul this afternoon by Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and the UN secretary general.

The Deputy Spokesman for the United Nations Secretary General, Farhan Haq, spoke to the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½. He says they have been working towards an agreement where "Ukrainian food and Russian food and fertiliser can be transported safely and effectively to all markets". It is hoped this would prevent the price of food around the world from "being catastrophically high". How quickly the grain and other products will reach global markets if a deal is signed would depend on "how quickly and effectively the parties would allow for this to be implemented."

"This is a victory for all sides" says Farhan Haq.
