Pre-Hispanic artefacts returned to Mexico
More than 2,000 pre-Hispanic artefacts have been returned to Mexico after a Spanish family had the archaeological treasures in a private collection.
President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has celebrated the anonymous delivery saying that the country's stolen heritage was returning home.
Journalist Anna Lagos specialises in culture and society, and Mexican archaeology. She told Newsday why the objects were of a great historical significance to the country, adding "Mexico strongly condemns the sale of pre-Hispanic archaeological artefacts. In terms of history and culture, when these objects are sold, they're taken out of their context, and their value of explaining their history, of their civilization, is lost."
