
Birmingham set for Commonwealth Games opening ceremony
1.5 billion are expected to watch Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.
The Commonwealth baton arrived in Birmingham city centre after a ninety thousand mile journey around the world.
Over 12 days, Birmingham will welcome 72 teams and about 6,500 athletes and officials to compete in the biggest sporting programme in Commonwealth Games' history.
The event is expected to the best-attended Games with 1.2 million tickets already sold.
Today’s Martha Kearney spoke to Olympian Tom Daley, one of Birmingham’s most famous sons – Sir Lenny Henry – and two of the prime organisers behind the event; Steven Knight and Iqbal Khan.
