China expert: Pelosi visit ‘may speed up reunification’

Tensions are high across the Taiwan Strait as the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, flew to Taiwan and told president Tsai Ing-wen that the United States will not abandon the island.

Her comments come as President Joe Biden warned against the visit and despite China, which views Taiwan as its own, threatening grave consequences.

Victor Gao is a former Chinese diplomat and Vice President of the Centre for China and Globalization. He told Newsday that Speaker Pelosi "needs to go back to kindergarten to learn some history ABC", although he added that her visit may "even speed up the process of national reunification.”
