Does the Kansas abortion vote reflect the will of America?
People in the US state Kansas have voted to maintain a constitutional right to abortion - a major victory for pro-choice groups.
The ballot was the first state-wide referendum on the issue since the Supreme Court allowed states to ban the procedure, when it overturned the Roe v Wade ruling in June 2022.
Amy Littlefield is abortion access correspondent at the US publication The Nation. She told Newsday the referendum result is "clear evidence the pro-choice majority" has been "awakened", adding "credit goes to the grassroot organisers in Kansas who pulled off this tremendous upset.”
