Are giraffes about to disappear from Africa?
A recent survey from the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) shows that only 117,000 giraffes remain in Africa.
GCF works across Africa and plans to study the world’s tallest mammals by tagging them with solar-powered GPS trackers.
Stephanie Fennessy is GCF's Executive Director. She tells Newsday that the majority of people don't know giraffes are in trouble and explains the species is at risk due to human activities and our lack of knowledge about them.
“Giraffes are in trouble… there’s less and less space… in some areas it’s poaching, disease… but in the end its all human-induced impacts."
