Flash floods in state of Kentucky claim at least 37 lives
Flash floods in the state of Kentucky, in the United States, have claimed the lives of at least 37 people.
Victims include four children aged eight and under. Their parents lost them when water engulfed their mobile home.
Hundreds of people are still missing.
The east of Kentucky has been worst hit after days of rainstorms battered mountain communities.
Linda Blackford is a columnist for the Lexington Herald-Leader newspaper.
She told Newsday, "A lot of people go to family, a lot of people are in shelters that have been set up, and there are just a tremendous number of aid organisations coming to the area, setting up kitchens. When I was down on Monday, there were just tents set up everywhere with volunteers who bring crock pots of chili and hot dogs, so it's very much a grass roots effort. But as it gets difficult in the coming weeks, when the adrenaline dies down, (and) where these people get housing, it's quite difficult".
