Does the US climate bill go far enough?

After 18 months of political wrangling, the US Senate has approved President Biden's landmark bill to tackle climate change.

Named the Inflation Reduction Act, the bill provides $369 billion for a range of measures designed to move the US economy away from fossil fuels.

The bill - a key plank of President Joe Biden's agenda - will now be sent to the Democrat-controlled House.

It is expected to be backed there as soon as this week, before it can be signed into law by Mr Biden.

So what are the details of the bill and how will it affect industry, ordinary Americans and of course the wider human impact on the planet?

Newsday got more insights - and some thought-provoking statistics - from NASA climate scientist Peter Kalmus.
