
Decluttering: 'Your home is a reflection of your state of mind'
TV presenter Nick Knowles discusses why decluttering his house was 鈥渟o worth the quality of life鈥濃 it has provided for him and his eight-year-old son.
Nick told 5 Live鈥檚 Nihal Arthanayake how he tackled throwing away some of his belongings; 鈥渟tart by getting rid of two [boxes] and keep eight, [鈥 then I got carried away and ended up throwing out ten鈥.
He argues hanging on to too many of his father鈥檚 belongings got in the way of him remembering him properly. 鈥淚鈥檝e [now] got a golf ball that鈥檚 in my eyeline every day, so every day I think of my dad鈥.
Psychotherapist Helen Sanderson explains why clearing out your home can be beneficial to your wellbeing 鈥渢he more stuff you have, the more you have to manage鈥.
For those who find it more difficult, she says 鈥渁ll those things we delay and put off, become burdens on our mind and we can鈥檛 be creative鈥.
