Sierra Leone: protesters 'hungry, not terrorists' - eyewitness
About 130 people have been arrested after anti-government protests in Sierra Leone. It is not yet clear how many civilians were killed - though some sources suggest at least six police officers and at least 21 civilians died.
President Julius Maada Bio spoke to the ѿý a day after the riots – calling the protests “terrorism in the highest” and said as a government they had done a lot to address high unemployment and poverty.
Many anti-government protesters in Freetown also called for the president to step down. An eyewitness to the protests, Armani, knew four of those killed by police:
“These are not terrorists. People are hungry, this is why people take to the streets to protest.”
