"We're from an Asian community and we're the ones that are generally waiting longer."
Karen Bahai is mum to three year old Harvey, Harvey has been waiting for a transplant for half of his life.
His previous routine of having daily dialysis at home has changed to spending three half days in hospital. She says their lives are on hold whilst they wait and feels the new research will help so many families.
Researchers at the University of Cambridge say they've managed to alter the blood type of three donor kidneys - which could reduce the amount of time people have to wait for a transplant.
The scientists used a special machine to change the blood in the organs to O-type -- which can be used for all patients.
The charity, Kidney Research UK, which is funding the study, has described it as "potentially game-changing".
