Liz Cheney defeat: 'the Republican party is definitely still in the hands of Donald Trump'
Liz Cheney became the face of of those few republicans criticising Donald Trump, but now voters in Wyoming have ousted the congresswoman.
She was trounced by relative political newcomer and Trump-backed candidate, Harriet Hageman in the party's primary, and won't be the Republican candidate in the upcoming midterm elections.
Ms Cheney was one of only two members of her party to join the congressional committee investigating Mr Trump's attempts to cling to power - and one of just ten to vote to impeach the then president.
Newsday spoke to Susan Stokes, professor of political science at the Chicago Center of Democracy, and asked for her assessment.
