Rwanda genocide: Félicien Kabuga on trial in The Hague

A former businessman suspected of being one of the masterminds behind the 1994 Rwanda genocide, which saw the massacre of 800,000 Tutsis and thousands of moderate Hutus, is set to appear in court in The Hague.

Félicien Kabuga was arrested in France two years ago after escaping arrest for more than two decades.

In the 1990's, Mr Kabuga, who stands accused of genocide, incitement to commit genocide and crimes against humanity, was president of a radio station which broadcast calls for the killing of Tutsis.

Newsday spoke to Claude Gatebuke, survivor and co-author of "Survivors Uncensored", a book about the genocide survivors, and began by asking him whether 87-year-old Mr Kabuga was fit to stand trial.
