How can we strengthen our memory?

Have you ever walked into a room and forgotten what you went in there for?

When it comes to scientific understanding of the human brain, memory is one of the more elusive areas of research.

As we get older, the loss of memory can become concerning, but a new book, The Complete Guide to Memory: The Science of Strengthening Your Mind is looking to cast a light on how memory functions, and what we can do to preserve it as we get older.

Neuroscientist Dr Richard Restak is a past president of the American Neuropsychiatric Association, who has lectured on the brain and behaviour everywhere from the Pentagon to Nasa, and has written more than 20 books on the human brain.

Newsday spoke to the author and asks for some tips and tricks.
