Trump seeks independent lawyer to check FBI papers
Donald Trump has asked a federal judge to temporarily halt the justice department's investigation of files seized from his Florida home. In a lawsuit, the former US president also asked the court to appoint an independent lawyer, known as a special master, to oversee the records.
Orin Kerr is Professor of Law at the University of California at Berkeley. He told Newsday that Mr Trump wants to make sure the FBI does not have papers they are not supposed to have: “So really the ball at this point is in the government’s court.”
