TV ‘confession’ of Iranian anti-hijab activist is ‘false’
A video posted online by a group of Iranian female activists in support of Sepideh Rashno who was arrested for protesting mandatory head-scarf rules has gone viral just days after she appeared on television making a "confession" they allege was made under duress.
Masih Alinejad is a US based Iranian journalist, activist and dissident. She told Newsday: “She was tortured to do a false confession, she was forced to come on TV and denounce herself, to denounce me, to denounce anti-compulsory hijab campaign…Forcing women, forcing girls from the age of seven to cover themselves, it’s a bad law. It’s a discriminatory law. For millions of women in Iran, she’s like a hero…we’re not just fighting against a small piece of cloth.â€
