Does spending a lot of time on your phone affect your parenting skills?
According to research, parents who consume a lot of digital media to relax are more likely to be more irritable, to shout more at their kids, and to generally engage in negative parenting practices.
The team of researchers started their investigation at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and previous studies have found that screen time and digital media use has accumulated during this time.
Jasmine Zhang is the lead author of the study from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, in Canada.
She told Newsday, "We found instances of what we call teleconference, when technology intrudes into a person's interactions with other people, that was related to more negative parenting outcomes".
