Fighting in South Sudan displaces thousands of people
Fighting in the north of South Sudan has displaced thousands of people, who are unable to reach safety due to flash flooding.
The fighting in Upper Nile state first began almost two weeks ago. At least 15,000 people have been forced from their homes, but are unable to find resources and shelter.
Sara Nyanti is the Humanitarian Coordinator for the UN in South Sudan who talked to Newsday about the recent fighting in the region.
She says, "The situation is very dynamic, civilians predominantly the elderly, women and children, are moving from location to location, and of course, they are moving without any belongs, some of them were already predisposed to hunger, food insecurity, diseases, and so now they are in desperate need."
