Personal finance expert Martin Lewis has said the government is 鈥渇rankly irresponsible鈥� for not already having help in place for those affected by the energy price cap increase.

Regulator Ofgem has announced the typical household energy bill will hit 拢3,549 a year from 1 October.

Responding to Pradeep, a caller on Radio 5 Live who said he is feeling 鈥渟tressed out鈥� by the increase, Martin said it is clear the price cap is having a 鈥渄evastating impact鈥� on people鈥檚 mental health.

鈥淭o have this announcement come without having the help in place so people would know what would come is frankly irresponsible,鈥� he said.
