Pakistan reels under 'worst flooding ever'
Tens of millions of people across Pakistan have been affected by flooding there. With over 1,000 lives already lost, there are fears it will take years for the country to recover.
Newsday spoke to Asif Sherazi, the country director for Islamic Relief Worldwide. He describes a desperate situation affecting all aspects of life. People are in dire need of the most basic provisions and resources, such as food, shelter and drinkable water.
“With every coming day, the situation is becoming difficult and deteriorating for the people…. It’s a catastrophe everywhere in Pakistan", he said.
Mr Sherazi describes some of the work he and his team are undertaking on-the-ground as they travel to affected regions. He told the programme that tomorrow, Tuesday, the Pakistan government will launch an international appeal for aid.
